I doubt that, at that point, Durandal would care whether humans knew he was rampant or not. He had his own ship, so it wasn't like they could just turn him off like Traxus. I would guess that he was powerful enough to handle most anything the UESC could throw at him, or at least escape if he needed to. Given his personality, I think he would want _more_ people to know he was rampant, to satisfy his ego. : Given this past experience with rampant AI constructs, wouldn't the UESC want
They probably would want to destroy him, although I think the Jack the Ripper analogy is a bit off. Durandal came back and gave them new technology. He didn't go around murdering prostitutes. : Durandal just implicitly claimed that he is meta-stable. Wouldn't UESC
It seems likely that any Earth scientists would want to either eliminate or study Durandal, but it's sort of a moot point, as none would have the means to accomplish this. And aside from showing off his new ship and allies, Durandal had at least two motivations for helping Earth. He admits to a degree of affection for humans later on, and helping them would also cause problems for the Pfhor, who are the main foil to his plans throughout the series.
