The reality is......
Posted By: Captain SparkDate: 2/20/12 11:25 p.m.

In Response To: Halo: Combat Evolved and Bloom (uberfoop)

: This has been a debate forever (Video by Spartan117FS) , and nobody seems to
: know exactly what the reality is, so I figured I would go ahead and make a
: video that actually demonstrates a reasonable sampling of possible cases.

: Halo 1 Bloom Test

: It's a lot weirder than most people realize. Almost everyone agrees that
: tapping the trigger rather than holding it reduces bloom, but most people
: don't realise that the sort of tapping matters. I don't know if it's
: because the game has difficulty detecting releases if you release only for
: brief moments, or if there's some other mechanism involved (like if bloom
: increases while trigger is held and decreases while trigger is released),
: but the less time you spend with the trigger depressed the better. Tapping
: up looks almost as bad as holding the trigger, while tapping down looks
: almost as good as firing slowly.

: Halo 1 is effectively a zero-bloom game for precision weapons... as long as
: you play to its weird nuances.

I'm not sure why people are confused about targeting bloom? In Reach, targeting bloom is nothing more then the targeting reticle visually displaying projectile spread by expanding and contracting depending on the speed the trigger is pulled. Basically, bloom is a visual representation of projectile spread displayed by the reticle "blooming".

In Halo 1, the targeting reticle is a static image for all weapons.
