Activision is a company in it for the money just like every other company, they just have a CEO that's brutally honest about it. Like it or not, subscription-based and micro-transaction models are becoming more and more common, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Activision has said recently that they're forming a team to handle CoD online/downloadable content (presumably map packs, in-game add-ons like weapons and colors/clothing, etc.). From what I've heard the intention is that you can either subscribe to the service and have access to whatever they put out, or pay per-item. Systems like this not only save hardcore fans money by giving them a discount in the form of a subscription that costs less than the total of everything they'd buy anyways, but also saves the casual fans that are only interested in the maps money by allowing them to buy only the maps. EA is taking a different approach and making it so you need to buy a new copy of their game or buy used and pay $15 to access online (think Cerberus Network for ME2). Neither of these approaches are bad, and they actually allow companies to give us more content more frequently.

Ultimately I'd say don't worry about Activision getting part of the money you pay because (1) Bungie needs the money to keep making kick-ass games, and (2) Activision really isn't different than any other company (they are just more open about their intentions).
