Stephen Loftus got at part of where I was coming from. I figured that Waypoint or somewhere online made a lot more sense than a garbage awards show that probably doesn't come close to the viewership that Waypoint will. As for fighting against a publicity option, I think the money could have been spent better and placed in a lot of better places on TV than where gamers will already be watching and are already aware of Reach or will end up seeing the content anyway. I didn't see Infinity Ward do anything really beyond putting an ad in a football game, and they've never been given the type of millions of dollars in marketing that the Halo games have, and look what they've done. I guess I just don't really like the way Microsoft handles the marketing around Halo in general. The Believe campaign, which was bad ass, really didn't show a damn thing about the game. ODST's commercial? Not a damn thing about the game. And now Reach, debuting it on a show that doesn't have anywhere close to millions of users, and if they do it will be because IGN, Kotaku, Gametrailers, and everywhere else is now plugging the big Reach announcement. So sure, publicity is always good, but it could be directed better. And of course this is just my opinion. It's not like they're paying me millions to cut off Bungie's ODST announcement on their own website and still not let them show anything at E3, or to put stuff on a supposed awards show that has failed multiple times at "getting it right." And as I already suggested, that Monday Night Football CGI ad appeared to be highly successful at kicking off the media blitz for H3, so clearly Microsoft could do better at getting TV viewers' eyes on it. We all know they have the money, and we all know that if not for Bungie and Halo, the Xbox might not even be around today (or anywhere close to as successful as it has been).
