With all due respect, I'm trying to be very reasonable here, and you're not. I already said that I like & play Halo 2. But it's not a perfect game, and not above reproach. Back in the day, I posted some things I thought were wrong with Halo 1 as well. I wasn't "bitching," I was pointing out what I thought could make the game better. It just happens that I think Halo 2 has more weaknesses than Halo 1. I think I'm entitled to that opinion. I've always been good with grenades, and I think I get pretty decent mileage out of them in Halo 2 (now that I'm used to the way they bounce). But I ask you, if we played a game on a somewhat enclosed map - let's say, Ivory Tower - and you could only single wield the plasma rifle or SMG with grenades, and I could only dual wield and never throw grenades, who would you honestly expect to win that match-up? Assume our talent level is roughly equal, and that neither of us has the drop on the other one all that much. The answer is, I would probably dominate you. You'll leave me bruised and with my shields down a lot, but I will survive those confrontations most of the time. Because your main weapon doesn't do much damage (less than the old AR or the old plasma rifle), and your grenades are easier to dodge. Basically, I can kill you a lot faster than you can kill me. Even if you found a way to always take me out with that last grenade, your best case result would be a dead-even tie... and I just don't see it happening. And mind you, this doesn't really affect my game much. All it means is that I dual wield most of the time now. But I think the game would be a richer, more fulfilling experience if single wielding was still a valid approach to the game, not just a fallback option for unlucky souls who just spawned. The ideal Halo 2, for me, would be a perfect balance between the new (dual wield) and the old (single w/ grenades). And unfortunately it's not there. | |
