Well, if nothing else, it would remove some ambiguity; so many people don't realize there's a strategy element involved, and you can't just sortie out, grab a random gun, and bring about carnage. Or, maybe you can, but team co-ordination usually yields better results.
That, and I wouldn't have to find my preferred weapons, or rest them from less competant hands. Think how much DoD would suck if I had to make my way through half the map before I found the MG - or found where it spawns, only to learn that swift idiot has transported my beloved weapon to the middle of the map, in easy view of God, man and snipers.
Though it does just make sense that a team of troops would be deployed with the worst weapons in humantiy's (or the Covenant's) arsenal, and then made to track down decent gear. And, of course, it's just common sense that there would only be one or two of any give weapon around - I mean, tactics should consist of simply manopolizing all the decent weapons and then hammering your opponents senseless while they blair impotantly with un-aimable pop-guns, right?
