Not only do I assume that HE doesnt't think that, I know of lots of people who played Doom and Quake first, and upon encountering Marathon thought "what a pile of shit this game is, what were those Mac freaks raving about anyway?" or similar. So it cuts both ways. Personally, I consider them about equal. There are things about the Marathon games I like better, and things I like better about Quake especially (didn't get into Doom as much, and any advantages over Marathon it might have are less clear, though there certainly are some). I don't think there's any universal assessment that says that the Marathon games were better games than the Doom games (especially considering the Doom games came out like a year earlier), though a lot of Marathon fans seem to assume that there is--they love Marathon, so everything is judged by Marathon's standards. If Marathon is good at it, it's important.
