Fine. So they hate humanity. So why don't they go total war against them?

Never suggested they destroy the ring... just toast the surface. You still get to keep the ring and the humans are gone. Even IF you don't feel that nuking (or whatever) is a possibility, then you should deploy your entire compliment of troops to handle the situation.
