The Covenant behavior inconsistencies... | |

Well, as I've been ranting and raving quite a bit so far... I can't quite figure out why The Covenant doesn't use genocidal/scorched earth/total war/etc. kinda tactics on Halo and just *WIN*! Lemme point out some things (citing the backstory Bungie gave us)... 1. They're probably not interested in Earth. How do we know this? Well, it's obvious they can communicate with us, right? So they can understand us and we can understand them. Now in the process of "destroying all the human systems" isn't possible that if they were *really* intrested in Earth that they would extract that information from the colonies or the defending space ships? Torture, computer records, star charts, etc. would all point towards Earth... *AND* any other colonies (if that was their goal). 2. There's nothing on the PoA they want. Some have suggested they want Cortana, but if so would they really be willing to do the following? "The human ship comes into the system, makes these very quick discoveries, but before it can do anything else it's attacked by the Covenant battle fleet and broken into bits." Perhaps it was a disabling shot... but how could you be sure you wouldn't damage whatever it is you wanted from the PoA? What if the whole ship had blown completely up? What if the thing you are after is destroyed upon entry into Halo? If they actually wanted anything from the PoA, then I doubt they'd risk attacking it and breaking it into bits. Also, despite what all the previews say, there's nothing from Bungie that suggests the PoA crash lands on Halo (my feeling is that it pretty much broke up). Apparently there was nothing on the ship they wanted. (Also, if you use the interpretation of the Cortana/Covenant transmissions, it's obvious they tried to destroy you multiple times) --
3. They want the PoA destroyed. This relates to my points above, but it's more specific. They don't care about killing humans/cyborgs/etc. as much as we might think... otherwise they'd gather the intelligence necessary for finding and destroying Earth (where you get to kill a whole lot more humans/cyborgs). We see them attack the PoA with intent to destroy on three occasions! BUT, once the PoA is in pieces and the humans are on Halo, the Covenant does NOT engage in all the easy tactics they COULD resort to in order to destroy all the humans on Halo. Could it be that they simply aren't interested? But if they *AREN'T* interested, they WHY did they attack all those colonies? But they ARE after humans why didn't they seek out Earth OR use Total War against the humans on Halo? They might not care about the humans on Halo because their target was the PoA (or, more specifically, probably Cortana) but then why destroy all those colonies? And now that they're done destroying the PoA, why not go after Earth to prevent any more AIs from being built? What's going on here?! We're missing a puzzle piece... What's The Covenant's motivations?!? |
