Correct, I wasn't saying it was a link to Marathon, just that there should have been a UNSC Marathon in service at some point.
More like something for fanfic writers to have fun with. ;)
Mind you, there is another twist worth noting.
The first ship in a class is indeed the class leader, but other ships can bear the same name.
For example, there have been 3 USS Iowa's, but only the third one was a Lead Ship and made the Iowa-class battleship.
So likewise, it is at least plausable to have a colonly ship in the Halo universe named the Marathon.
