In Response To: Looking too hard. (Narcogen)

: What does that imply about Cortana and Gravemind, if anything?

: Is it merely coincidence that Halo 2 ends by throwing those two characters
: together, and that the announcement trailer hints heavily at peril to
: Cortana, and that Bungie mentioned she was "in the clutches of the
: Gravemind"?

It's a path, that's what it is. Unfortunately, my knowledge of Marathon and Thoth runs thin, but perhaps Durandal (Gravemind) aims to do to Cortana what Thoth did to him.

Whatever that was.

I'm not looking for comparisons at all. In fact, one cannot compare the two universes and in any way come to the conclusion that they are the same or that one DIRECTLY begot the other.

What one might conclude however, is that in the essential eternity before the full collapse to singularity in Durandal's universe, he must have been able to touch knowledge of the infinite. He might not "know" how to be God, but he learned to tweak the odds.

And in the long slow grind of a Cosmos, liklihoods, trends, and probabilites become truth.

I respect your opinion on all things Halo more than just about anybody's, but on this I must disagree. I don't think this can be casually dismissed.

Should people take this as canon? For the love of god, no. Am I convinced that Bungie actually used this for their story? No...but they MIGHT have. They really might have. It absolutely smacks of GRAND PLAN.

-Pull your eye out of the scope and you notice trees, water, and sky.
-Look around more and you notice architecture (Forerunner what?)
-Spin your head upwards and you see Threshold, and the arc of the Halo.
-Sniff around enough and you learn of long past battles fought and lost.
-Look deeper and catch a hint of something grand - have we been here before?
-Follow the trail back to earth, and discover the truth.

Every layer leads to the next. Pull back and see a different reality. I'm just following the breadcrumbs.

Am I wrong? Most likely. Do I care much? Not really. This isn't gospel, just one hell of an idea.
