Re: Reid's theory, HSP

In Response To: Reid's theory, HSP (yakaman)

: F*cking awesome. That is a grand theory.

: Jilly says "even if it can be disproved...". Disproved how, I
: wonder?

: Sometimes, a theory just smacks of....rightness. Maybe this was Bungie's
: approach, maybe not. It MIGHT have been, and that's the glory of it.

: Just fantastic. I'll have fun thinking about the possibilities for weeks.

It is a fairly nifty theory. However, I have to wonder: If Durandal survives the collapse of the Universe and achieves his ideal of Godhood (in whatever form), then what of Marathon's Security Chief? In Infinity, he too, through a process of what seems to be living Rampancy (Despair, Rage, Envy), reaches a form of Godhood, breaking the binds of reality to bend the events of the Universe to the desired end. Is it not possible then, that seeing a disastrous end in Durandal's Universe, he manifests himself within its reality, to bend it once again toward a better end? If so, where might he be? Referring back to the End-screen of Marathon Infinity, Durandal speaks in the second person to (I assume) The Security Chief, and identifies him as "Destiny." Do we know of any characters in the Halo universe who should have "died a thousand times," who have come through and made "hopeless encounters successful"? Someone who seems to wade through impossible odds as though fate itself is on his side? Perhaps "Destiny?"

I posit that familiar claim: The Master Chief is Marathon's Security Chief. Not in any sense of physical body--nothing that easy. However, for someone who has broken free of the bonds of reality, I don't doubt it would be easy to manifest himself in a Universe on a collision course with a bad end.
