That's the toughest encounter in the game if you go killing friendlies. Railgun Spartans are not to be trifled with lightly. On the subject of Del Rio, I think the books and the brief "alone time" with the character on the Infinity bridge at the beginning of "Reclaimer" told me what I needed to know about him--he's a little out of his depth. Essentially his selection was a political choice, but I think he's always wanted the same kind of respect Lasky has with his men. Witness his flipout when Chief disobeys orders and everyone is not jumping to his defense. There definitely could be more flesh on those bones (the same goes for Palmer), but I don't think Del Rio falls into the "he's just an ass" mold.
