The entire reason they went through the thing with Del Rio seems to be that they wanted to pull a Halo 1-style final-act isolation of the player. But Halo 1 expertly throws you down a hole at the end of AotCR and then pokes fun at you all the way through 343 Guilty Spark (including meeting you up with a whole bunch of marines at the end, only to immediately get them slaughtered and you abducted by a blue floaty thing). It's powerful, and natural. With Halo 4, it's so weirdly contrived. But it probably didn't have to be. Which is unfortunate, because it really lets down the scenes themselves which are executed, on a moment to moment level, quite well.
