In Response To: Re: Visualizing the Halo Universe: Round 5 (Postmortem) : Now this... this is just damn interesting. And not similar to anything I : expected to come out of this round. But I like it. =D : In the Forerunner trilogy, there's been a lot said about the Forerunner's
Great. Now I've got a mental image of a Forerunner cosplaying as a Pandaren. Don't know where that came from. But now that you mention it, I do remember reading something like that in Cryptum, and I had a mental image of Forerunner wearing a Vietnamese hat and Chinese-style robes. But even though I enjoyed Cryptum, I didn't pour through the details like I would have with a UNSC or Covenant-centric novel. Maybe it's time to read Cryptum again. : So how would they treat individuals who choose to almost entirely reject
I think that it would be hard to tell if a Forerunner has gone through this mutation if he didn't want it to be known. Even if you disregard Hardlight, there's regular holographics and the Forerunner body-assist armor to cover the prosthesis and keep the Warrior-Servant 'normal' looking. Come to think of it, they might also socialize via telepresence.
: That would be how I'd see it if these Forerunners - who I think should be
I only referred to them as “Warrior-Servants” because that's the rate they would fall under, like a gardener would probably be a Lifeworker. Operators would be a good term for them. I also like “Directors” or “Overseers”, because they would definitely be coordinating a Sentinel escort in combat. “Foremen” works perfectly, but it's a little too close to “Forerunner” for my taste. : But you did go out of your way to indicate that
Credit also goes to Ghosts in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig. In that season, they mentioned that people with a full-body prosthetic will often get custom faces made, and some sculptors have made a career out of that.
Come to think of it, part of the genesis for the whole “Overseer” idea lies with Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. There were security officers in the Locus Solus factory that Kusinagi killed, but all we ever saw of them were these suits that were plugged into the factory's hardware. It didn't look like they could ever physically leave their posts. Were they humans, or were they automatons given the spark of life though the same barbaric practices the company used to manufacture their gynoid models? : Personally, I really want to see one of these guys with all the prosthetic
I had an idea for a scene on the deck of a Forerunner cruiser. Remember in District 9, how Wikus was piloting the Prawn exoskeleton, and the chest split open so he could talk to Christopher? Something like that, with an Overseer conversing face-to-face with the Didact. : I just find it very fitting to think about 343's Forerunner
Couldn't hurt.
: The only issue I have with this is that I don't see them communicating
The prosthesis would let them communicate over the radio, and whatever else the Forerunner use to send messages. So no, no midichlorians involved.
: Anyways, good job on this. I like it, because it gets my thoughts rolling. :) Glad you liked it!
