Yeah, what I meant in regards to the rules, if I can use the covenant spaceship contest as an example, is that the rule saying it had to be a ship previously seen or mentioned, with a fully fleshed out background was very constricting. I think it would be easier to just say that whatever is designed has to fit within the canon, make sense in the universe, but not be absolutely beholden to it. The fleshed out background is more helpful here, I think, because it allows people to really consider their design and come up with something interesting that still serves a purpose/has a logic.
