In Response To: Visualizing the Halo Universe Round 5 Summary (Postmortem) : It would seem that every new round that I post ends up with less and less : participants each week. This time around, we received two submissions, one : of which - while amazing - didn't cover the subject matter, and the other : which covered only the most basic of ideas visually, while the rest went : down in writing. : TDSpiral asked if it was okay to do a slightly different (but related) topic : beforehand, and Dave lost his more completed work due to technical issues, : so I place no blame on them. In fact, Dave's exploration of the idea that : a Forerunner's outlook on their own personality can shape the physical : form they take was a fascinating one that I would have loved to see : visualized. They both have participated and attempted to share their : thoughts with everyone here, and I respect them both for choosing to do so : with what they had. Nevertheless, two weeks of intended work time have : concluded and we have essentially no artwork covering the subject for : these two weeks. : I was hoping to see Forerunners with six arms, Forerunners with diminutive

: What am I doing wrong? : Please let me know. I don't think there's a whole lot you can do besides a few minor changes. For the most part, I don't think there a whole lot of pen-and-paper type of artists around here, and even then, maybe they don't have the time to do anything or the desire to. And for the less-practiced artists, maybe they don't feel comfortable enough posting because they lack confidence in their abilities. This is all conjecture, but I remember feeling this way about drawing/design forums just because I felt like I didn't have any ideas worth sharing. And that kind of goes with how Halo canon is being perceived these days. A lot of long time fans don't know what to make out of what they're seeing, and don't know they can speculate on anything when a lot of what they know seems to be changing. At least that's sort of what I gathered from Levi's reasons for not posting any of his stuff here. When things are judged based on their good-standing with canon, it may seem a bit intimidating because there are so many things you have to keep track of. That's the only real problem I have with the contest having prizes. I used to consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it came to Halo stuff, but I've forgotten a lot of what I used to know. So I'm on Halopedia, flipping through multiple articles just trying to make sure my ideas are still solid. If you want to know what motivates me, I'd say that it's because I have fun designing and drawing more than playing Halo. I don't know if that's true for many other people, so I don't know if that assessment is applicable here. As for things you could change up: - People like subjects that are less vague and have more restrictions. When you ask someone to be creative on the spot, it just doesn't work. There's too many possibilities, so many ways to go- no one knows what would be the right or wrong solution. I think this week's subject was pretty vague and maybe required a bit more complex thinking than some people really wanted to put into it.
I hope that helps.
