In Response To: Re: Many HBO peeps have blocked out the truth (scarab) : If the canon has been broken then we can rely on nothing - anything that was : said can be disappeared. Why speculate or why build a chain of evidence : when some of that evidence can be invalidated by fiat? ( Those Italian car : makers can be such bastards ;-) ) Heh. Nice. The raging debate about H/F relationship is specifically what bonded me to the Halo community when I stumbled upon HBO in 2004. Like archeologists, posters here were putting together magnificent proofs in an effort to push one way or another. That all of that effort, that investment could be swept away shows the exercise to be worthless. I can't help but wonder if the scheduling catatastrophe of H2 caused the initial need to diverge. I would love to hear Staten speak explicitely on the H2 that was supposed to be, as opposed to what it had to be. : But if 343i are just trying to go into the H==F idea in detail and if they
Maybe, but they have shown in the books that the species are different very different in the ways that matter to the casual observer (size, shape, etc). There have been hints that they may have a shared origin; perhaps the Forerunner are simply more evolved than humans, or diverged off the genetic tree in the distant past. I guess I would not be suprised by anything at this point. : If the Chief has a geas and if he has inner-voices then both of Cortana's
It sounds like 343i wants to expand on who John is, what drives him. I would hope this means they will not resort to "ancient General X induces John to this/that/other", because then who John is meaningless - a nonsense equation. The geas stuff becomes interesting if it serves to reveal backstory through memory flashbacks or conversation. People have long discussed John's null depth as allowing the player to fill his shoes and personality. I can't believe that 343i would open him up for fleshing out only to pour in ghosts from the past. It seems that the geas stuff has been used to provide context to 343GS's statements in H:CE. "All our lost time...", "Last time, you asked me...". These are explainable if he is having conversations with the people in his own head, and not the Chief. But I loved the mystery associated with the original, dammit. It was eerie when 343GS was a Forerunner, but not so much when he is human.
