Though I would point out that I was only following the trail the "published canon" presented. If the caretakers of the Haloverse want to change course, and I am a general fan of the fiction, then I will tolerate changes in said course and try to enjoy them. If I was confused or the issue muddied, you can thank Bungie themselves for some of the issue (see 2401PT statements in H2). However, I acknowledge Staten's statements (and Evil Otto's) as the "genuine article". The H==F relationship rings as the most true and natural interpretation of H:CE, specifically 343GS's statements. I also believe that the monitors were originally meant to be slivers of Mendicant Bias, cursed to watch the galaxy (not my idea - Ragashingo's, I believe). The Haloverse moved on though, and I moved with it in order to enjoy it. I think part of your point here is extremely prescient: I can no longer muster the fervor for story speculation I once did.
