In Response To: lol feminism (Cody Miller) I didn't find the sexist comments to be out of character. I know feminists like to envision a world where everyone wears bulky unitards and nobody knows who is a boy or girl until they get naked, but the reality of the situation is that there will always be sexist men who will oogle an attractive woman. I'm not saying that is good, but I'm saying it's realistic and portraying it doesn't necessarily glorify it. I think you are supposed to feel like Mickey is an idiot for saying that. At least I did. The running sexual tension between Buck and Dare is also something that is expected and will probably become more of an issue as women become more prevalent in the military. You can try to enforce "No Dating" policies as much as you want, but the simple fact is that there will be situations where a man and a woman have had relations and now one or the other of them is in a position of leadership above the other. This will not go smoothly all the time. Especially if the relationship did not end well. Buck's comments and interaction with Dare were unprofessional from a military standpoint, but expected from a human standpoint. I feel like Dare is a strong character with a specific mission that she will go to great lengths to accomplish. She has probably had to overcome hurdles to get where she is but when push comes to shove she gives orders and people follow them. If Buck got too gooey over her and felt like he wanted to "rescue" her, well, he's got some obvious emotional baggage. I think that reflects more poorly on him than it does Dare as a character. She can't control the fact that he wants to "save" her. And she doesn't rely on him alone. When the rookie shows up she doesn't say "Sorry, we have to wait for Buck." she says, "OK, I didn't expect to see you but let's go finish this mission." It wasn't that she needed Buck to retrieve the SI, it was that she needed some kind of backup. Based on history she assumed it would be Buck that responded first to her distress call, but she was more than happy to work with whatever assets she acquired.
