So, I just got Contact: Harvest. The books pretty good so far, but while reading it, I noticed several mentions of how the UNSC had only 17 colonies. Now, this seemed too small a number to me, so I decided to list the colonies. Here are all the colonies named in The Fall of Reach, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact: Harvest, I Love Bees, and the Conversations from the Universe booklet that I could find: Atlas
That's 27. Far Isle was destroyed by the UNSC in 2492, though, but that still leaves 26 colonies. So, assume the Hydra and Beta Centauri systems each contain one of the named colonies. That's 24. Chi Ceti IV was a military installation only, so assume it's not considered a colony. Assume the same for Emerald Cove, too, because the only reference to it is when the Spartan IIs are on a training excercise there. That's 22. Off the top of my head, Eridanus II, Harvest, Madrigal, and Tribute are mentioned in CH. That's 4 of the 17, leaving 13 colonies. That still leaves the following: Atlas
That's 17 colonies, when there's only room for 13 more. I can't really think of a way to reconcile the numbers besides either a few more being military installations and not full colonies, or maybe not including the ILB planets. What do you guys think? And I know, I have too much time on my hands, but it was bugging me.
