Even things like the removal of fall damage in Halo 2 suggest, as Bungie makes these games, they have increasingly evaluated what impact decisions have on the fun factor. I'm going to trust these guys know what they are doing.

I am sure there will be several levels or portions of the game where you will have a personality companion or a group of marines/elites, just as I am sure there will be many more levels or portions of the game where you are on your own.

I think everyone will find a "sweet spot" in the game where they can exploit their favorite strategy, while there will be other areas where they have to improvise and cater to circumstances. If the entire game didn't have any AI partners, would that really be better? ..hmmm, ... my opinion is no.
