In Response To: Re: Here's a novel concept... (Marine Corps 117) The main problem I had with your post (and others within similar veins) is that it drew wide-ranging conclusions based on a couple minor items. The HGN, while acknowledged as "canon", seems largely an artistic endeavor, and included stories meant to expand the universe and entertain. Although we all strive to draw concrete rules and laws, the whole deal is somewhat fluid. Your basic point (that the guys and gals at Bungie have sold out, lost sight of the end goal, made large-scale errors in judgement, etc, etc, etc) is what really bothers me, but not because it is an affront to my opinions or that I'm not open to disagreements. It's that you are questioning the judgment and/or ability of world-class talent, people who are the best in the world at what they do. It's called loyalty. I know everyone is entitled to an opinion. What I cannot get past is the arrogance of someone presuming to know better. Bungie is the best and they have proven it over and over and over. Peter Jackson is the best. Ensemble is the best. You have no idea about the big picture, but you feel you can bash away freely. It's not that you don't have a right - it's that I feel you're not even vaguely qualified to make such statements. Of course you can say "I am qualified because I am the consumer"...that's always a convenient fall-back position. It just doesn't feel right in this context. Lastly, I get upset because I'm guessing that sentiments like yours, made so damn early, make Bungie think their fans are a bunch of spoiled-rotten, thankless, entitled kids. They have provided me with the best games I have played - I will trust their judgement and ability. Your post was civil, and I did not mean to insult. |
