You misunderstood me. I'm not saying a writer should not use creativity, hence "FANfiction". However, if he or she is going to use, in this case Halo, as something to branch off with with his or her various ideas, the writer should take the time to hold true to the facts set down, not so much out of respect for the original, true-blue material, but to keep the reader in the mindset that what her or she is reading is in the universe we all know and love. That's what irked me. That one word sucked me straight out of the atmosphere of that story, making me realize that, "Hey, some guy wrote this thing." I realize I sound like I have a stick up my ass for getting worked up over the most minute of details. But it's those little blemishes. EX: Greedo shooting first. Not exactly the same as Half-Jaw using the word "men", but you get the point - it was cringe worthy.
