Hmm

In Response To: Damn, Sept. (Shishka)

: The people that are panicking about "too much Halo" are, in my
: opinion, being a bit ridiculous. All that matters, the ONLY THING that
: actually matters, is that the end results are fun and enjoyable. There
: could be 20 Halo titles, and if they all kick ass, then YAY, there are 20
: titles! You folks should be less concerned over your personal
: interpretation of how the Industry works and more concerned with the
: projects themselves. Trying to decide whether Halo Wars will be good or
: bad right now is like trying to decide the entirety of Halo 2's story from
: its announcement trailer. Although the pre-rendered video was pretty, you
: still haven't seen anything from Halo Wars proper, yet. Be patient, and
: wait for the real content to start trickling in.

: And if it looks bad/looks like it isn't your thing? Don't buy it, don't pick
: it up, whatever. Remember the good ole days when you would happily own
: every Halo title ever (both of them, them), and move on.

Oh I'm well aware that it's far too early to judge a game, and well aware that if it's great, then: "Yay! More games!"

I suppose I simply had this notion of a "Halo Trilogy" and that's it; something short and sweet, where I was assured that each title received as much "blood sweat and tears" as possible. You take a look around at the many other series out there and you find many of which have been "milked to death" and many that were kept short and sweet. It seems I've lost the ability to appreciate it from the minimalist’s point of view. There’s no escaping that the newer stuff, if bad, will cast a bit of a shadow on the original works (albeit a weak shadow).

I guess it's simply the fact that I'm not assured whether these new partners will give the series the share of care it deserves… but I bet I'm jumping to conclusions on that as well. Peter Jackson, at least, has shown me that he's very much into telling a great story (which is quite a concern of mine) AND very much into Halo itself. Ensemble has yet to show me that in any form, and about all I have to go on the realm of a “Halo RTS” are the few opinions of fans who simply want to "blow stuff up" that looks Halo related. Not my cup of tea (I should also point out that not everyone I've talked to feels this way. Hope that stops the select few in IRC of giving me an earful on the matter). If there happen to be 20 more Halo games that fit that description, it will be a bit tough to simply ignore that they exist.

Again, it's a bit hasty, and not well founded, to base my assertions on the samplings of the RTS fan community and the meagre samplings I have made in RTS games thus far. And at no point have I personally claimed that "Bungie" has betrayed me in any way... just given what I see out there, it's simply a matter of jumping to conclusions that is a bit averse to the ‘direction Halo is headed.’ Some choose to blame Bungie for that. This "broken record syndrome" is not exclusive to the Bungie community, voicing an 'averse to change' opinion is inherent to humanity itself… the internet just magnifies that with bad grammar and spelling. And I can't say I'm not guilty of it. While I still am very cautious about these new games, at the end of the day, there is nothing I can do about it. The direction of the Halo franchise is not in my control, and voicing an opinion on where the Halo franchise should head 'if I had my way' would just be a type of mental masturbation, pointless in the end.

Time to lay back and see what’s in store. Love it or hate it, it’s coming.
