In Response To: Re: Why I've lost faith in Bungie and the Halo fil (ShortRoundMcfly) : I wouldn't condemn Marine for drawing conclusions from a trailer, as that's : what a trailer is meant for. A trailer can tell you to watch a great : movie, or it can be a stern warning to steer clear of crap like "Son : of the Mask" or "Alone in the dark". It's a huge, double : standard to say that this guy can't say that "Halo wars will : suck" from the trailer alone, but no one would mind if he said : "Halo 3 will be great" based on the trailer by itself. It's a little different, though. Halo 3 is the third game in a linear series. We know what to expect both from gameplay, graphical style/quality and plot. Halo Wars is the first of its kind, in several aspects. Imagine if the first Halo was announced with a trailer like 3's. Then people would surely mind if fans ran around screaming it would be great, just from that one trailer. The greatness would be baseless speculation, in fact. We have substance, evidence, that Halo 3 will be great. The trailer just confirms many of our thoughts (for me, that it'll be more dramatic than Halo 2, and that it'll look freaking sweet). No one knows anything about Halo Wars, and when you know nothing of something, thinking it'll suck is simply the best way to avoid disappointment. Some people (me included) use that as an emotional defense mechanism, actually. The more your expectations fail to be fulfilled, the better it feels to assume the worst at all times, because then things always turn out better than you'd hoped. That said, I do think Halo Wars will be great. Mediocre at worst, but even so, I'd buy it for the content instead of gameplay. Even if it means having to deal with the Myth-style type of strategy... the kind that requires actual thinking... I'm kinda bad at those kinda games... I like C&C...
