Foruners had a large network of underwater elevators in Halo 2 and they seemed to be designed to Hide/boundery from the Flood. Assuming the flood and water don't mix could this mean the artifact was hidden under a large body of water? Earth is known for being largly water. Is there any large body of water near Kilimanjaro today? I only say this because there was a destroid bridge in the background. Maybe whatever wiped the bridge wipes the waters too.
