Re: Significance of Forerunner location in H3 Trai

In Response To: Significance of Forerunner location in H3 Trailer (BeastIce)

The Chief isn't north/northeast of Kilimanjaro. He's southeast.

You identified the structure in the background as the New Mombasa bridge, but it's in fact the remains of the collapsed space elevator (Frankie said so himself in the last Bungie Weekly Update). This structure would be many hundreds if not thousands of miles high and so its wreckage could stretch all the way across Africa and beyond; what's important is that the wreckage leads back towards New Mombasa in the background (again, identified as such by Frankie in his update).

Look at a map of Kenya/Tanzania. Draw a straight line between Kilimanjaro and Mombasa. The Chief (and the artifact) are somewhere along that line, as Kilimanjaro and Mombasa appear in the trailer as being almost exactly 180 degrees apart from each other on the horizon.

As others have noticed, there's a song on Halo 2 Volume 2 soundtrack called "The Road to Voi." Bungie's generally pretty tight-lipped about specific locations, but here's a song about a road to a very specific location, obviously significant enough that it's got a song named after it.

Bust out your Google Earth and go exploring. Look for Voi, Kenya, and you'll find that it sits almost perfectly on a straight line drawn from Kilimanjaro to Mombasa. Hell, drop your Google Earth camera down to the ground and look at the hills surrounding Voi. They're remarkably similar to the hills behind the Chief at the start of the trailer, and they even frame Kilimanjaro in the same way.

I'd bet we know exactly where the Artifact is.
