There is, however, another possibility. If the Space Elevator was actually shot by a Covenant Cruiser, it very well could have the velocity to resist the Earth's rotation trying to sway it. In other words, if the cruiser was on the east, and fired a torpedo, it would hit the elevator on the east, and propel it west. If it had enough velocity going westward, the speed would nullify the fact that the earth's rotation is pulling it east. ...If that makes sense.

Interesting thing. My aunt just got back from a goodwill mission in Africa, and she was in Zanzibar for a while. I told her to take pictures if she saw aliens. Obviously, she didn't get it. :(
