In Response To: The state of the community. (Ross Mills [subnova]) I have seen this "degrading" of a community on many forums. Some of the forums that have went through this fell apart and became dirty alleyways for spammers to take shits, but others have rebounded and went through another golden age until the next flood of newcomers coming in due to more hype. I am confident that this forum won't become a piece of trash where idiots hang out and post redundant topics, because I have observed that the main thing that keeps a forum alive is the regulars, the people who have been posting at the forum since whatever it was about started, the people who have formed friendships that lasted through the golden age; the people who introduce smart ideas that evoke other smart ideas from others, be it regulars or non-regulars. There will be the people who just come in and annoying the hell out of everyone, but they will go, as will others who simply don't have the time to come here regularly and be known and respected. As others before me said, it takes time for wounds to heal. : Yes, I realise I shall get a bunch of flak for this. : No, I don't expect mass self-promotion for it. : Yes, I know that it is me whinging. : Ok that's done. : The current state of the community recently seems.... not what it used to be. : The people don't seem so much the crack team of Halo enthusiasts as they : were, and as you can see my participation here has been sporadic compared : to the golden old days. : The old forum had many fantastic people that I feel I share a connection : with, even if that connection is their loathing for my good looks. : Unfortunately, if I compare those people to professional darts players, : who would often hit the 'bullseye' with well thought out theories and so : forth, I must compare what has become of the community to the following... : A nail-gun. : Basically, shooting hundreds of darts at the dart board, with occasional hits : in the bullseye just because with every 100 thrown, chances are that one : will hit. : Louis has been able to keep himself sane with instating things such as the : MPRSS (fantastic idea), but it's beginning to show right in this very : forum. : Perhaps I am just not looking as hard as I used to, or the people who are : here don't interest me because I don't recognise them, or any number of : other things. Plus with Halo 2 being so stupidly popular, and the internet : required for extra fun bringing many people right here.... I don't know. : Maybe this place has just... changed. Or maybe I've changed. : I told you I would whine. This isn't an "I'm leaving". I guess I : felt I should explain for the complete lack of me being here for long : periods of time.
