Actually, in Marathon, you are "the one," so to speak, because you learn the other nine cyborgs were destroyed while trying to defend the colony.

I think there's another thread either here or at the core that explains this pretty well...I'm too lazy to go find it right now, but...I know it's recent, and I know it exists.
It's not really that he's DIM, it's just that his actions tend to be in the best interest for the human race (consider the Bobs that you kill as the "dumb" part of the gene pool ;)
