In Response To: What makes a nice map? (TDJ) : Uhm.. just wondering. : What does make a great map? That depends who you're asking. Every player has his / her own opinion of what makes a good map. : I know its nearly impossible for a new mapmaker to satisfy everyone, Memories of Rubicon... Some players loved the maps because of the flow. Other players hated the maps because of the lack of flow. Go figure. : but i
Variation is a good thing. ;) : Well, any hints, tips, links, etc are welcome! All I can think of is play your own maps. Over and over. If you find things that annoy you, fix them. If the textures don't look quite right, fix them. If monsters are stuck, fix them. Etc. You can't please everybody, but if you make sure *you* are happy with your map, then there's a pretty good chance somebody else will also like it. Conversely, if you don't think your maps are fun, chances are nobody else will either. Oh, some other tips: Try to make your maps represent real places. Simply stringing together a bunch of boxy rooms and corridors that zigzag for no apparent reason rarely results in good maps (IMHO). : -T D J
