You should try playing with a bunch of HBOers. Some of the write-ups I've done or that pete has done show some pretty amazing games with crazy comebacks, hilarious moments, tense games with horribly disappointing losses or extremely satisfying wins, and plenty of fun. : I'm really excited for ODST because it seems so campaign orientated. Whatever
Now's where I'll get to the "overrated" list. I wouldn't call Master Chief overrated mostly because in H1 he was the faceless hero, allowing the player to essentially place themselves in that hero role. It personalized the experience more. And when I first got my Xbox and Halo, it was because my friend had both and had shown me the campaign. The campaign looked amazing, was amazing to play, and was a blast. This isn't an exaggeration, but I've probably played through H1's campaign near 200+ times. There was no Xbox Live, and it's not like I was always hanging out with friends playing 1v1 or 2v2 or FFA at all times. I was completely immersed with the story Bungie was weaving, of a greater conflict between humanity and some bastards known as the Covenant on some extremely insane ring with one freaky surprise, the Flood, ready to screw everything up! From there I went to B.net, the novels, HBO, etc. So I don't think Master Chief is overrated at all because it was that personalization that allowed me to get into a game that was already extremely amazing, while at the same time being able to care about the Chief and the characters involved with him. Unfortunately, I do believe that more people buy the games for the multiplayer than they do for the story, whereas for me the multiplayer is just one huge bonus. I can't wait for Bungie's next game, and the multiplayer of the next game honestly hasn't even been a thought to me until just now. It's all about the story!
