In regards to the article, Master Chief is overused in the marketing and media, because in the actual games and lore, he is just a piece of the puzzle, as he is intended to be minimal and able to give the player the chance to slip into his shoes easily. The IGN article touched on this a bit, but didn't really think about it too much and realize that why they said the Chief was overrated was actual purposeful and designed by Bungie (game journalism is awesome!). And I think multiplayer feels strong in Halo 3 mostly because that's what the majority of players seem to care about, and I don't think it has anything to do with Bungie's perspective. I don't think they stiffed us or unbalanced it for the last game, it's the massive amount of online players that have swayed the public and media spotlight on that side of the offering. So it will always be a bit sad that my favorite games are now associated with competive jerk dooshbags, but I don't think that Bungie's fault or intention or anything. It's just the overwhelming public's views on the game. When I start up Halo 3, I see a massive campagin scene, and I see the level I need to play instantly loading up and "Resume Solo Campaign" lighting up. Multiplayer is just a fun diversion when you've played Tsvao Highway 10 times and you need a little break....
