Well it's a solution. I myself when I considered its potential future use in Halo Wars wondered how well it would work: how involved can you get in the fate of characters who are ultimately of no consequence?

Change the setting from the pre-outbreak Installation 04 to the Covenant occupation of Earth between H2 and H3 and it's starting to sound like ODST. Except I don't think its campaign mode works that way. More's the pity. One might have hoped that, in their final moments chained to the franchise, Bungie might get a chance to do something genre-breaking. However, perhaps it is best to leave new truly new gameplay for a new franchise.
