All I can say, as an avid gamer, and even as someone that doesn't hold MS up on some pedestal, that I still am amazed at the 'chutzpah' MS is showing by continuing to put their money where their mouth is. The online xbox plans, the HD and ethernet costs (by your own admission, a risky gamble) are ballsy in a very positive way: they push the envelope on what is 'normal' If XboxLive succeeds, and with something like 1Mil Halo owners, even if only 250,000 of them sign up for the year long subscription, that's 12.5 million dollars of gross funds coming in based on the pull of only 1 game (granted it's THE killer game on the platform). If it proves a runaway success (which I don't imagine will take much doing with Bungie at the helm) then Halo will continue to draw in sales, and other games will get more attention as well. I think all I'm trying to say is that it takes someone with deep pockets and balls to change things, and while it's unfortunate that it's MS that's doing the changing, at the end I don't care as long as it *actually* happens. Sega tried but the industry just wasn't mature enough back then. Now, I'm seeing Consoles and PC's getting more and more parity, and I couldn't be more thrilled. After all, in the end, it should be us gamers that win. Go us! :-) - M | |
