In Response To: Re: My campiagn gripes *SP* (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : - The encounters didn't have the feel of importance to them except maybe the : end. It was just fighting the same enemies in different environments. : There was story crammed in but I felt some of the encounters were so : trivial feeling I felt it could have been delivered as dialogue such as : "and then we fought our way through the forest". If I'm going to : have an encounter, make it worth something cool. This. Most of the story occurs in the cinematics and the gameplay segments mostly have you flipping switches or the like. As you said, most of them are so trivial they barely need to be mentioned in an overarching synopsis of the plot. The previous games haven't always succeeded at this perfectly, but at least I can remember more of the objectives. Get out of the Pillar of Autumn? Find survivors on Halo? Board the T&R? Etc. Most of H4's objectives are basically "press this button over here" and the disconnect from the overall story is pretty glaring.
