In Response To: Re: My campiagn gripes *SP* (InnerRayg) : Still, I just wish I had a single damn clue what the antagonist's motivation : even was. At no point did I even begin to comprehend why he needed to kill : humanity or whatever his goal was supposed to be (What, turning them into : computer men? Am I missing something here?) The Forerunners are proud of their horticultural skills. They think that they did a spiffy job of tending to genetic diversity in the galaxy. I think he is worried that we will dominate the galaxy and eliminate the other races and so reduce genetic and cultural diversity. From KT's books we see that Humans are considering removing some of the Covie species. The Librarian knows that our seeming expansion into the territories of other races back in the Forerunner's day was actually an attempt to escape the Flood. If D: was being fair then he would acknowledge this and not be so set against us. But if he wasn't being a dick then he couldn't be the bad guy. Note: he's not entirely wrong. In a sense he is protecting the other races from us. He's doing what the Forerunners considered was their job. It is L: who is being an anti-forerunner. She has picked a favorite species and has elevated it above the others. But let's not get into L: and DNA magic. Almost all American SF, that deals with genetics and evolution, is obsessed with DNA magic and a teleological view of evolution.
