In Response To: Re: Reach will have a great legacy. (Dervish) : Could you clarify that? I don't see how Halsey/Cortana's involvement with : Forerunner stuff in Reach contridicts HCE, it only adds (awesome) context. I'm not arguing that it contradicts HCE, at least not in an in-universe factual details sense. I'm arguing that it's trying to do something that HCE does better, in a way which interferes with HCE's presentation flow. Halo 1 brings in the Forerunner in an extremely well-paced way that makes the mystery of it all absolutely fascinating. It really brings in the whole reclaimation stuff in the Two Betrayals opening cutscene, and in a way which is absolutely genius. Reach just sticks a Forerunner building there and says "hey, this information and stuff is a birthright left behind by an ancient civilization." No speculatable mystery or anything interesting, really. And when stuck next to Halo 1, it throws off Halo 1's approach by jumping the gun on everything. It's context, but I'm not sure how exactly it's "awesome." Not all added interlocking facts and details are inherintly good for a ficticious universe. Unknowns can be used for storytelling, and sometimes what isn't told is as important and what is.
