In Response To: Totally Hypothetical Bungie Panel (PAX) (urk) I know this is usually an awkward question to ask artists, but: to Marty: What do you think of Stephen Rippy's contributions to the Halo soundtrack catalog via Halo Wars? Did you ever considering writing the soundtrack for Wars or were asked to? Does it feel to leave "your baby" (The Halo monk theme) in someone else's hands? Are you still interested in scoring a Halo movie if it still comes to fruition? to Staten: What if the Forerunner Tank.. rang? to Butcher: You mentioned a while back in this interview http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=17712 "The defining moment of my time at Bungie has to be the crucible of shipping the online multiplayer for Halo 2. Work started back in late 2002 when I first diagrammed the design of the network stack on a whiteboard. But it reached its peak in January 2004 when we deployed the first alpha to MS internal testers, and then continued at a hectic pace through the internal beta, the failed delta, certification and RTM in October, followed by the launch, ops support, and autoupdates in November and December." Now that Halo 2 is offline, can you discuss any dirty secrets about the Halo 2 online infrastructure? Was there any bugs people never noticed? How much did the bugs people notice (only host having physics on LAN/Live) annoy you? Any interesting hacks or tricks you did to get the game working in time? What happened to the feature that would have let players essentially run their box as a dedicated playlist server that rotated through gametypes?
