My point was that there is no reason that they would think that the ring might be a Covenant colony in the first place. It's like walking up to someone and suggesting to them that their unmarked toaster was, in fact, probably not manufactured in Belgium. This is why I drew a parallel between it and the original line; it's similar in that it's an absurd thing to say, but problematic because, unlike the original, it can't be ultimately passed off as Cortana being Cortana. Basically, if you absolutely insist on replacing it, which I suppose is understandable even if I personally wouldn't, this is not what you want to be replacing it with, since it exacerbates the problem and throws away all safeguards.
