I think I'd cringe where I used to : giggle. My interpretation is that the player doesn't know much about Cortana's character yet. In PoA, she's highly technical with moments of sass. Also, she's still only, like, a month old? She's developing rapidly, mostly in response to John. The first time I played H:CE, I rolled my eyes pretty hard at that line. It's lovable now only out of nostalgia. The new line is meant to be informative from a plot standpoint, because the player is now only getting hints that this ring world isn't just some Covenant colony. (The full realization comes in the next level.) That is, if the player is even paying attention to her at all while tooling around in a Warthog for the first time.
