Re: Bam- Headshot

In Response To: Bam- Headshot (Cody Miller)

: I blame the lack of replay value in Halo 2's campaign squarely on the
: reliance of long cutscenes to tell the story. Halo does have a few long
: cutscenes, but they are spaced out, and more importantly quite nessesary,
: and tight. Information is conveyed efficiently. Not so I feel in Halo 2,
: as they are frequent, and overly drawn out.

This reminds me of Prince of Percia: The Sands of Time. I looked forward to playing this game when it arrived, but I was so utterly annoyed by all micro-cutscenes, that I couldn't play it :p that's not very normal, I guess, but I got sick of losing control so frequently. I think what you're pointing out about the cutscenes in Halo2 probably is very true. As we speak it itches in my fingers to play the Halo campaign, ya, Halo1, not Halo2 >_> In Halo2 co-op, at least for me, we skip the cutscenes if both players have seen it before... which, as you said, surely reduces the amount of immersion, that very important part of the game...

: I heard arguments about how games were faster pace built for live, thus
: playing them in a LAN setting burns you out. I think this is true. I also
: think destructable vehicles play a big part in this. You have huge maps,
: but when every vehicle has been blown up, we're left running by foot. This
: is slow, and boring. In halo, somebody was always in a vehicle. You get
: shot with a rocket, and the warthog isn't dead; the other team now takes
: it. This made large levels viable, and interesting. I feel waterworks
: could be a blast with non-destructable vehicles, but as it is, it's just a
: lot of running.

The indestructible vehicles in Halo1 sure were charmy, and when you point out what the change to destructible vehicles in Halo2 caused, I realize why they were charmy :3
When thinking a bit further, in Halo2 the healthbar was removed to let us focus on the game, aye? But instead the vehicles got "health" which we get to worry about :P
