You bring up some good points, but...

In Response To: My semi-annual novel...replayability and teh Dukez (Ducain)

You know, Duke, I completely agree. I wasn't expecting online coop in Halo 2, but I was sure hoping it would be there.

Just some straight facts: I enjoy playing Halo 2 more than Halo. Any day of the week, and twice on Sundays, even. I like Halo 2 more. I still play through the campaign occasionally. When I go back to playing Halo, though (which, like you, I do pretty often) I'm taken back to the summer 4 years ago:

I was a member of the Gamewinners.com forums, and had been since 2000. I had been inactive for a while, until my dad gave me a gift in November of 01: Halo. I had played Marathon, so I was excited for this new game. I popped it in, and I was AMAZED. I soaked up every ounce of story and gameplay I could, and I remember the first time I played like it was yesterday. I was simply blown away. Anyway, I was having trouble beating the game on Legendary, and I was looking for some tips for doing that. I went to Gamewinners, and noticed they had a Halo forum. I promptly started posting there, and I've by this time, racked up around 5000 messages, and THIS is when I really got into the story, and the game in general. I started spending more time at HBO, reading the story page and the forums, and learning how to do these 'tricks.' Warthog Jumps still entertain me. By the year 2003, I knew Bungie's whole history and virtually everything about the Halo universe. I could've given Miguel a run for his money. Maybe. Nevertheless, I had stopped playing the game. I had new ones. Ones that looked better, ones that had more longevity, and ones that were more easily accessible to my sister, who I played with a lot. I still visited the sites, I still soaked up all the funny stuff (RvB), all the sad stuff (*Ar), and everything in between.

What I'm trying to get at, Ducain, is that while online coop would be awesome, more people would play the game now, and the longevity of the campaign mode would have been extended fivefold, the games have NEVER been the biggest part. What makes Halo a truly great series is the community, and that hasn't changed with the release of Halo 2, and the release of Stubbs, and the coming release of Bungie's next game, and it probably won't change in the future. Replayability is a key factor in the success of the game, but, like I said, it's the community and the dedication that truly dictates how awesome Halo is.

I think I may have taken your post the wrong way. Did I?
