In Response To: Re: Nostalgia. (Ducain) : I just reread my post again this morning, and still don't see it. If that's
I guess I just took it to the next logical step - if the interest between the two campaigns is distinctly different (and it is, I'll agree with you there), the most logical reason would be because the CAMPAIGNS themselves are very different. Cody put it nicely; the story is advanced in-game in the Halo campaign, and in cutscenes in the Halo 2 campaign - one technique is clearly more immersive than the other. Apologies for spinning your post to suit my own thoughts. I didn't really mean to do that - but I guess I can see how it's being interpreted that way. (Skav and I were talking the other night about this very subject, which is why it got front-paged at all; I don't play EITHER campaign any more, but I replayed the first one MUCH, MUCH more than I ever replayed the second one. If the games were single-player only, I'd have to say that Halo far outshines Halo 2.) On the other hand... I find the multiplayer of Halo 2 to be much better suited to my style of play - even removing the online-vs-lan issue. Halo's multiplayer had an individual focus - and for a lot of players, that was everything. For players like me, though, who aren't better than middle-of-the-road at best, but are pretty good with the whole integration thing, the team-based strengths of Halo 2's multiplay outshine the first game. Halo's campaign had some serious replayability - witness the new section's of Rockslider's site even today. Halo 2's campaign didn't have this - not for me, not for you, not for a lot of people. I'd say the 'why' was probably the most interesting question here - except that Cody did such a great job of answering it (for me :) ). Anyway - I found it intriguing that 1) you were posting this independently of anything I said, RIGHT AFTER Skav and I discussed it, and 2) your experiences (in single player) matched mine pretty closely. That's why it was front-paged, but again, I'm sorry for 'spinning' it. |
