In Response To: Re: Halo 3: My Musings on my Blog (Matt) : Maybe from the outside; on the inside, it was pretty clear. They were in NY,
: Not as much as Stubbs is looking forward to you. : -Matt Oh my God, Shameless plug! D: Anywho yeah, I really hope that Stubbs does well, I'm looking forward to seeing how Seropian's (If it was your idea then by god take credit) game making strategy worked out. The whole hiring contractors seems brilliant, and I can't wait to see if it actually worked. But anywhich... There's one thing I don't agree with about your first post Mr. Soell, (Brown nosing, please disregard D:) No matter what kind of figures Microsoft was trying to get for Halo 2, much of the hype was based on how great Halo 1 was. By upping their hype in the Advertising department, and making the game as a whole more Mainstream, well, it pissed off a bunch of people. In terms of Xbox Live, extending the fanbase has ruined the game. I find that half the time I can never get a decent game because I either get cheated at every turn, or I'm playing with a 9 year old (stereotype) who shouldn't even be allowed to play this game, (Technically being 15 I shouldn't either, but by god I'm more mature than half of the 17 year olds in the country), who seems obssessed with doing horrible and placing the blame on me or another team mate. They also generally seem intent on proving that I'm a "faggot", or a "nub." For God's sake, when the hell did people forget how to pronounce n00b? The reason that Microsoft shouldn't do nearly as much advertising for Halo 3, is the fact that its HALO. Throw up a single TV Advertisement in Halo 2 announcement trailer fashion, and gamers will be hooked and set to buy the game.
However, if they go for a Mainstream approach on Halo 3, it will kill it. The players who disliked Halo 2 for its "dumbed" down story, and best weapon wins balance, and susceptible-ness to cheating will not get it. The figures will be lower than before. The key to Halo 3 will be to make everything feel as powerful as it "should." The plasma pistol went from being a great weapon that could actually be plausible in battle, to something that only takes out the shield. Whoop-de-frickin'-doo. Also... lower auto aim, and make the headshot range the actual head. I don't like being entirely behind a wall, and then having a battle rifle shoot beside me, and rather than hitting the collumn I'm behind, hitting me in the head and killing me. Maybe throw in an area defined damage level too, that way I don't get sniped in the foot and die one shot. And... for the next game, don't remove any glitches, or change up the weapons, or any stuff like that. Remove stuff that is bad. Extremely bad, and is a rapid occurence. Don't take out Sword Flying, in fact, put it back in, as a custom game option. Don't allow it in Matchmaking. Also, for the next game, don't release it until it is up to your standards on everything. Remove all the bugs, glitches, anything you can find. Delay the game if you have to. Just because you've got the biggest wallet in the world, breathing down your neck with greed, doesn't mean you should allow things to stay in just because you're being forced into a release date. To quote J Allard "We'll release it when its ready." Halo 2 didn't get that treatment. I hope to god that Halo 3 does. ~Jinno |
