Since apparently this isn't a troll, or at least Hamish likes it anyway, I guess I'll comment.
I hate the orange. Glad I'm not alone there. That not-quite-JFO orange is what made me suspect a troll. I think everyone knows by now what colors I would make the news headers and links. I think I would prefer the S'pht purple, but I'm not sure what I would do about the main header, other than it should not be orange.
The S'pht and the caution bar pattern are cool. The angled header bars are a nice touch. The bottom of the S'pht looks a little funny somehow.
It's fixed-width, not even min- and max-width, and not even centered; unsuitable for anything besides 1024x768, either bigger or smaller. It needs to scale with the page somehow.
Unless we're having another page for links, linked from that nav bar, there needs to be another navigation area for all the non-main links which are on the currently page. And it needs a Get Marathon area.
The footer is... floating. Unattached. It needs something so its not just loose text fallen on the floor of the page.
Your code has very poor separation of structure and presentation, and no semantic content. There are empty divs that serve for display purposes only, appearances which could be achieved without them; and no textual elements besides paragraphs, when there really ought to be at least an h1 and some h2s.
