I like the use of the Mullins pic in the background, but not the horizontal "static", which upsets the serene effect of the Mullins pic.
I like the use of Modula Tall in the header, good Marathon theme, but not in the buttons, for ongoing-development reasons. Buttons should be plain text for easy of updating in the future; part of what's wrong with the current site is that the navigation is all a giant image map.
I like the consolidation of the main links down to a few. I wouldn't choose exactly those few, but that's the conversation I was trying to have before all this bickering over the skin of the site began. We shouldn't even be having this conversation yet.
The tagline is clever, but nor super professional. I have mixed feelings about it. If the rest of the site looked sharper, and it was less prominent, I'd probably like it.
You also have poor separation of structure and presentation and no semantic content.

This part is not addressed at you in particular, but a general comment segueing from that last line:
The web is not primarily a visual medium, though vision is the majority mode of accessing it. Web sites should not be designed first in Photoshop and then just coded up to look right. A proper web development process starts with deciding what kinds of content go on the page, and which pieces should take priority. Then the structure of that information gets marked up. Then those bits of information get laid out in a way representative of their importance. Then you style that layout in a way that is attractive and cohesive overall, and directs the eye to the different pieces of information in order of their importance.
By focusing on things like color and fonts to the exclusion of all those earlier concerns, we are putting the cart before the horse. We need to reach consensus on what content needs to be there and the relative importance of the difference pieces before we can effectively carry on with the rest of this designing.
Everyone may love the look of Candland's poster or whatever; but, for example, what happened to the half the forum who were in favor of a place to download Marathon from the front page -- or those, like Joho, who thought it should be the primary focus? If we settle on wanting that, where will that information go, and will that addition look like an afterthought to a layout that was not made with it in mind?
