I have a degree in multimedia arts. I do graphic and web design for a living. People pay me for this -- this is my day job. I have experience and/or education, and I really don't appreciate the insinuation that I don't. *That* is the only thing that makes me really want to walk away. Tell my why you like or don't like it, please, and I will consider it; but DO NOT tell me that I don't know what I'm doing, or you can do it yourself.
I am listening to others and I appreciate the feedback; that's why I started this whole subthread instead of just privately working with Hamish, I want to understand the community's concerns and build something that addresses. But I'm not going to just blindly do everything everyone tells me to right away without arguing about it, especially when people are telling me to do contradictory things (make "Get Marathon" just one link, or make it the main focus of the site? Hide/get rid of all the dead/old links, or have them all on the front page? Prioritize some links over others, or just have an equal list of all comers?). That kind of design by committee will ruin a project.
I have to consider feedback, yes, but I also have to stand my ground and make the final decisions myself. I defer only to Hamish for the final authority as this is really his project to begin with.
