	In Response To: Re: Draft 1 Wireframe (RyokoTK) : This looks like a game website from the early 2000s, back when loads of : colors and images were seen as necessary attention-grabbers. You realize there's only one image on that entire page? And four colors? : 1. White space = good. There's no need to address the entire width of the : page, especially as more and more people have wider resolutions. When I am : reading something on my computer, I don't want the text to actually span : across 18 or so inches of monitor width. So rather than having the text : boxes automatically stretch to fill the variable width of the page, allow : for a simple artistic design (like the one on this very site) or a simple : color (like white or very light gray) to column-box the page. Fixed width = bad. Part of the reason the current design looks so dated is because it is fixed to the size of the average monitor back then. Layouts should grow or shrink to fit changing window sizes and changing font sizes. The web is not a static page. If you've got a monitor that's three pages wide, why would you run your web browser maximized anyway? (That said, I could see an argument for using CSS3 columns in the news boxes for people who do have absurdly wide browser windows). : And there's no gradients. Gradients, like frames, are a good ten years out : of fashion by now. Yes, gradients are so out of fashion that they're a popular new feature in a web standard that isn't even completely finalized yet. Just like rounded buttons, so old fashioned they were nigh impossible until recently. : Anyway, bear in mind that news in the Marathon community is, uh, pretty : sparse. It's not incredibly necessary to have the splash page show the : last ten or whatever updates considering there's probably four : "news"-worthy events per year, at most. I think showing two : updates and then a link to older news will be quite enough. There are seven news posts, all from this month, on the front page of mbo right now. I included seven news posts in my mockup to mirror that functionality.
